The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony

On Monday, September 9, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., the Most Venerable Somdet Phra Mahathirachan, Member of the Supreme Sangha Council, Head of the Northern Monastic Region, and Abbot of Wat Pho (Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm), graciously presided over the Buddhist chanting ceremony, the traditional Lanna "Sueb Chata" life-prolonging ceremony, and the foundation stone laying ceremony for the casting of a 32-meter-tall principal Buddha image for Phutthamonthon Chiang Mai (The Chiang Mai Buddhist Center).

The ceremony was attended by Phra Brahmasenabodi, Head of the 7th Ecclesiastical Region; Phra Dhammasenabodi, Deputy Head of the 7th Ecclesiastical Region; Phra Thepmangkalachan, Head of Chiang Mai Province’s Monastic Region; senior monks; Mr. Pichai Lertpongadisorn, President of the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization; Mr. Sathaporn Vijitsunthorn, the sponsor of the Buddha image base construction; government officials; disciples; and lay devotees.

The event took place at the ceremonial grounds of Phutthamonthon Chiang Mai (the Chiang Mai Buddhist Center).
